Decorative Decoy Designs: Dabbling and Whittling Ducks
Published in Spiral-bound by Stackpole Books (January, 1990)
Average review score:

An Excellent ReferenceThis is an excellent reference for painting and carving decorative or gunning decoys. The information is presented clearly and the color pictures provide exceptional, close-up detail that waterfowl artists require. The reader will gain realistic carving patterns and painting instructions from this book. There is information about 22 species of dabbling and whistling ducks (male and female). The information I found most useful was the paint mixing instructions. The mixing instructions are easy to use and provide a great quick reference to get the correct mix of colors. This is an excellent choice for the novice or expert waterfowl artist.

Discovering Oregon's Wilderness Areas
Published in Paperback by Frank Amato Publications, Inc. (01 July, 1998)
Average review score:

Discover Oregon's Wilderness AreasThis guidebook can used as either a coffee table gift book with its multitudes of beautiful colored photographs or a guide to suggested hikes in Oregon's Wilderness areas. The author, for years a resident of Oregon, gives you one hundred of her favorite hikes to some of the Oregon's wild areas. The pictures in the book, like the two-page layout that shows a hiker on the Cooper Spur Trail in the Mt. Hood Wilderness viewing Mount Adams and Mount Rainier, or the close-up head shot of a common garter snake eating a bullfrog, are stunning. All photographs in the book were taken by the author, a renowned scenic and wildlife photographer. She describes Oregon's 36 wilderness and provides photographs that will entice you to visit them. The author has hiked every trail described in the book and provides the reader with information of the trails length, difficulty, highlights, elevation gain, maps required, best season, if permits are required, management contacts, highway directions, and trail information to the tenth of a mile. The author, who has written several Oregon hiking guides, knows what she is talking about, so if she says these are her favorite hikes you just to believe that they are going to be special. Don't take her word or mine, you will have to see a copy for yourself to appreciate its value.

Don't Call Me Ma
Published in Hardcover by Doubleday (September, 1977)
Average review score:

A delightful story of a logger and his family in OregonDon't Call Me Ma is the story of a Oregon logger who fell in love with a fine Boston lady, named Caroline Snow. She moved with "Big Sam" to the woods of Oregon, quite different from her Boston upbringing. The book teaches us lessons of nature, of love, and of persistence. It is must reading. It is such a joy to find an author such as Mr. Churchill, who is able to communicate the real meaning of life through his words. It is also a great look into the Oregon logging history.

Driving the Pacific Coast - Oregon and Washington: Scenic Driving Tours Along Highway
Published in Paperback by Globe Pequot Pr (December, 1993)

I'm home again ! This book just takes my breath away!I grew up in Oregon and spent most of my summers on the Oregon Coast. I live in Sourth Carolina now, and when I look at this book, it makes me cry ---every time. I am not an experienced travelor, but I know what beauty is. The Oregon Coast defines beauty for me. This book presents pictures that are breathtakingly beautiful. I remember as a teenager, walking with my girlfriends, lost in the Coastal mist, singing our hearts out. I was too young to appreciate the glorious visions that are there in my beautiful Oregon, just so abundantly available. When I go to the Oregon Coast, now, I just fall apart with emotion. Now more than ever, because my father is buried there, and he loved it SO much. When you look at the pictures of this book, remember my father, in his grave site on the cliffs, overlooking the beautiful sea. What a glorious final resting place. I dedicate this review to you, Dad. Thanks for showing me all the beauties of Oregon and our beautiful Pacific Coast. Barra (Remember our Oregon Coast song? I do!)

Eli's Songs
Published in School & Library Binding by Margaret K. McElderry (November, 1991)
Average review score:

An easy readThis was an easy read for an adult, however, the environmental undertones made the reviewer have to remember that her best friend is a logger's wife. She had a definite urge to root for Eli as he tried so hard to save "his trees." The reader is caught up in Eli's journey from hip big-city cool guy, to be considered a "wierdo," one of the nicer things he is called as he attempts to adapt to life in the small Oregon community where his Uncle Danny and Aunt Maud live. His father, Rick, has sent him to live there while he takes a shot at big-time entertaining with his band. Eli's strange looks (long hair, earrings, surfer clothes) do not make for an easy adjustment. The writer has captured what one would think a boy would feel when he is uprooted and plopped into a different world. My only regret is that music did not accompany the songs he wrote to accompany the story. Perhaps he should write a screenplay and include melodies to go with the lyrics.

Employment in Oregon: A Guide to Employment Laws, Regulations and Practices
Published in Hardcover by Lexis Law Publishing (Va) (January, 1998)
Average review score:

Nuts, Bolts, and DetailsFor small business owners or people new to managing a smallstaff who need a fast, easy to read, and very clear guideline tohiring, paying, managing and firing employees this book is ideal. Employement law is a scary business, and ignorance can be painfully expensive. The book is well organized, comes with tabbed dividers, and spells out what to do, what NOT TO SAY OR DO, and gives a few cases to clarify meaning. No wasted words or opinions are presented, so you can find out what you need to know quickly.
